Meaning of the Face the Fire Coin
The flag of the United States is the background and symbolic of our entire nation which was attacked on September 11th. The Pentagon shape is symbolic of the holy ground inside the Pentagon on the second floor in the 4th corridor near the collapsed section where the Lord spared my life. The verse written around the coin, I Peter 5:10, refers to God's promise which says, "After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you." For the burn survivor or wounded soldier, the suffering is very personal. This verse is the promise of physical, emotional and spiritual healing that comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ, no matter the suffering - a relationship that overcomes all challenges we face in life or death.
On the reverse side is the image of the Purple Heart Medal. It is awarded to military personnel for wounds received in action while engaged with a hostile enemy. It is our nation's symbol to recognize suffering. The quote surrounding the reverse side, "To care for him who shall have borne the battle, his widow and his orphan" is from President Lincoln's second inaugural address. The Civil War had just concluded and it was time to heal the nation. For the burn survivors, the wounded soldiers, and their families, the healing is a similarly long battle and the medical professionals who care for them are charged with the spirit of Lincoln's words. Finally, the six stars are indicative of Christ's supreme authority. Currently the highest rank in the military is a 4-star general; however, Congress has the authority to reinstate the 5-star rank. These are Earthly positions of authority. The Commander of the armies of heaven, Jesus Christ, would symbolically wear no less than 6 stars. He is not only the Great Physician, but also the Commander in Chief of the gift of life. |
